Pivot By Jenny Blake
Third book on the #90days90books challenge. Yippeee!
The overall concept of this book is to help you realize the best decisions in life can be when you pivot. This can be pivoting away from your current job to another or starting a new company. Most of the focus on this book was on career and work life but this can be applied to overall life. The author breaks it down into 5 stages, plant, scan, pilot, launch, lead. She dives quite well in to each one, sharing personal experiences and lessons, as well as stories from persons she interviewed. Some of these interviewees have their story shared all the way through the book. With this book she explains all the concepts and methods through each stage and how to successfully pivot your life and be happier.
Would I read it again, no. Would I recommend it to someone else… depends. If this person was unhappy in their career or work, I would consider it depending on their situation. I think my issue with the book, is that I’m already a pivoter, or “impacter” as she calls people like myself. I had a hard time reading it, felt like it could be a lot shorter and too many stories to get the point across. That said, it doesn’t mean this book doesn’t provide value, including me, its just not something I would recommend to everyone. Maybe if I didn’t read it in one evening, I would have a different take on it. Check it out if you are looking to pivot your life.
