The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment by Eckhart Tolle
In the first chapter, Tolle introduces readers to enlightenment and its natural enemy, the mind. He awakens readers to their role as a creator of pain and shows them how to have a pain-free identity by living fully in the present. The journey is thrilling, and along the way, the author shows how to connect to the indestructible essence of our Being, “the eternal, ever-present One Life beyond the myriad forms of life that are subject to birth and death. – (cited from Amazon.com)
This book will change you. It will make you rethink everything and bring stillness to your life. If you’re trying to find peace within yourself and calmness, this is your book. This is one of those books that should be read by everyone. I will admit, its a short read (230 pages), but you will find it feels much longer. I felt as though, I would read 10 or 20 pages and pause for a lot of time to comprehend all of it. Like any book, you can read it but you must put it into action. Before you can put it into action you must fully understand it. If you’re like me, you’ll spend a lot of time processing it. I will admit, for the first time in my life I feel like I can shut off all the noise in my head. I used to always be thinking about something, complex problems, I know I’m not the only one. Since reading this book it seems as though its become quiet. When I need to think I can, with so much more focus and power. When I need to be at peace and not think, I can. I believe we all as humans, are always dealing with noise in our heads. Worrying about this or that, thinking about something we did or didn’t do, excited about something, etc, etc. Some of that is actually good but most is not and its so much better to have a mindset of now, to disassociate yourself as your mind, and connect with the inner you. Simply put, read it!
