On The Shortness of Life

Paperback | Kindle

Overview

“It is not that we have a short life, it is that we waste a lot of it.” – Seneca. One of the best quotes from the book in my opinion. Most of this positions on things is to not let vices control you. Whatever those vices maybe. Life is meant to be lived, in doing what is important, to not only you but to others. It is important to help society in any form that best suits you. More of less this book has the ideals of live modestly, do everything you can for others, don’t let life or its vices control you, and not fear death but know that you are not promised tomorrow; Live life to it’s fullest.

Bottom line

Highly recommend reading. You’re belief and thoughts toward how to live life will be reconsidered at the very least. Great book! Live a tranquil, restoring, and resisting of faults on your unawares life.

Ten Acres Enough

Ten Acres Enough By Edmund Morris

Paperback | Kindle

Overview

This book was originally written in 1864 and is written from the authors voice. He moved his family from the city to a farm after dreaming about it for 20 years. In this book he goes through city life, finding a farm, buying it, planting process, harvesting, and the numbers over a 3 year period. He find success through every year despite some minor setbacks and minor issues. Good book!

Bottom line

Read it but don’t be surprised if there is some dull chapters. I feel like the last 60 pages dragged on for a long time. Those 60 felt like 300 pages. The first cow they bought was pretty entertaining.

Meditations

Meditations By Marcus Aurelius

Paperback | Kindle | Audiobook

Overview

There is a lot to digest with this book for it being so very short. It is only 99 pages. Meditations, is the philosophic discussion of being stoic and the living a stoic life. It made me think so much that I feel speechless. The take a ways are, you only have one life. You only have the present, the only thing that can be taken from you is the present. Your life is not meant to be lived only for pleasure. Live a modest, honest, and in constant study of philosophy. So many other things to write up and discuss but its best if you read it and digest it.

Bottom line

Read it. Preferably not in one day and take all the time you can studying it. Read it multiple times. It’s a wonderful read.
